Finance Book Recommendations

Personal Finance books and resources inside.

Jeffrey DinackusNovember 10, 2024

I love personal finance. I will recommend the best personal finance books I have read and how to find more.

There is a skew towards books for beginngers here, this isn't really my fault, but a feature of the industry. Most authors choose to write a book for beginners in personal finance.

Sometime else, many of these books are available via audiobook. I primarily listen to financial books while I drive. Audible is what I use.

Youtubers at the bottom.

How I find personal finance books

I mainly type in something like in google

site:reddit.com best finance books

Then I look at what people recommend and see what it interesting to me and feel called to read. Easy peasy and the results are great.

Best finance books for new investors

The Simple Path to Wealth

J.L. Collins

This was my first book. Highly recommend.

If you can

William J Bernstein

https://www.etf.com/docs/IfYouCan.pdf

This is a whole solution that will walk you through the basics of everything you need to know as a beginner investor. I recommend reading it all the way through and then going step by step through it if that sounds appealing to you.

The Little Book of Common Sense Investing

Jack Bogle

Very good book by the founder of Vangaurd. I recommend the bogleheads conference too.

Retire Before Mom and Dad

Rob Berger

Fantastic book from a interesting man. Check out Rob's youtube channel too. I met him in person at Bogleheads 2023 and he's a very nice guy. I appreciate the theme of this book, and it contains a lot of interesting math but is easy to understand.

The Automatic Millionare

David Bach

A good intro book which is very easy to read and has a lot of good takeaways for the average person to use compounding interest and small sums to build a retirement. See David Bach's other books.

I will Teach you to be Rich

Ramit Sethi

Getting to be a classic book, Ramit covers a lot of things many do not cover, such as checking accounts. Highly recommend.

Your Money or Your Life

Vicki Robin

A very interesting and classic book. This book contains a personal finance program suitable for most people but especially well suited for those who already have a income I think.

The Millionaire Next Door

Thomas J. Stanley PhD, Willian J. Danko PhD

In this book, two academics interview America's millionaires and spill the beans on how Millionaires really live their lives. recommended for anyone and everyone. Don't buy the new one. Buy the version with the authors listed here.

Bogleheads Guide to Investing

The Bogleheads

This is a group that formed on the "Vangaurd Diehards" section of the Morningstar forums and now work to increase investor education. They have a conference annually that I highly recommend.

Hardcore books

All About Asset Allocation

Rick Ferri

A book all about asset allocation.

Retirement Books

How to Plan for the Perfect Retirement

Dana Anspach, The Great Courses

This is like a book of tips, rather than a book that will get you from A to Z (however few books will). I have found it useful and contains a lot of information that few others talk about.

Retirement Planning Guidebook

This is also a hardcore book. Wade Pfau's textbook on retirement. If I was going to retire shortly, this is what I would use.

Specialized Books

Die with Zero

Bill Perkins

Suitable for high income earners (especially young ones) who want to experience the most in life.

Smart Women Finish Rich

David Bach

I have not read this book, because I am not a woman or married but David Bach is a author I have read two books from and really like.

Early Retirement Extreme ERE

Jacob Lund Ficker

Highly recommended for anyone looking to retire early. It is a mix between a philosophy book and fire book. Has interesting persepctives on life.

Smart Couples Finish Rich

David Bach

A finance book for couples, similar to automatic millionare but with a couples twist. More of a whole solutions than automatic millionare covering many different topics rather including values, security, insurance, etc. recommended for couples.

The Wealthy Barber

David Chilton

Classic book, some of the advice is dated. It is a narrative, suitable for those who would rather be told a story rather than read a finance book.

How to Win at College

Cal Newport

Gives tips for college students about how to succeed in college. It is a short book and like Cal Newports other books.

Psychology of Money

Morgan Housel

This is a interesting book, about the union of psychology and money, not as good as books higher up on the page but can be useful for some investors.

YouTubers

Rob Berger

Daniel Braun (he also does credit cards)

Credit Card YouTubers

AskSebby

Mark Reese
