What I'm Learning (WiL) October 2025

The start of a new series.

Introduction to Series

I'm starting a new series, What I'm Learning (WiL).

I will be writing on the first through the fifth of the month, what I am learning in the new month, and reflect on the previous month.

What I’m learning this month:

  • Golang
  • Juniper Certs (for work)
  • Trading stocks (over the next few months through 1 year)

Stretch goals:

  • GitHub Certs and/or Microsoft Certs
  • Building more cloud systems including diagramming

Why I chose these topics?

Golang seems like a fun language, optimized for the cloud cost efficiency which is my use case as I want to build more cloud software. I have wanted to learn Go for a long time, as it seems technically deeper than my other languages.

I want a higher return on my capital, sometimes I see really good stock choices, such as when I wanted to buy Apple at $190-200, but I didn't have extra funds. I would like to be able to capitalize on these more for higher returns.

What I learned last month:

  • CompTIA Project+ and Server+ achieved (both lifetime!)
  • Built a cloud application (AWS stack), added features and have more lined up
  • Built another cloud adjacent project that involved scraping, some of my friends told me it was cool
  • Studied economics, through YouTube videos and Piketty's book, Capital in the 21st Century which I am still reading
  • Read The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, which was a great book. It opened my mind to how other people may feel or percieve things because the way the author thinks is quite different from my own, and her thought process is laid out in detail

How did it go last month?

Overall, it was okay. I needed to get Project+ and Server+ done because they were going to CE and require renewal in the future, so it's good that I passed so quickly. It took me 6 days of study to pass Project+, and 4 days for Server+. I had already watched a course for Project+ at that point but 6 days for practice questions, but the 4 days for Server+ was start to finish. I wish I had gotten the GHAS cert done and JNCIS Security for work but I have been sick, so progress is slowed. I am happy with my cloud application, I showed it to a business owner and he said he might want to pay a subscription fee to use it if I add a feature.
